The Personal Touch
I've said it before, regarding Content Management Systems, but this week has shown me again that a 1 size fits all mentality is rarely entirely satisfactory.
Having worked with Kieran and Lisa at Ladycross Caravan Park in January this year, it became apparent that they required some kind of electronic customer and bookings management system to replace the current paper-based solution. Kieran spent a while looking into a variety of off-the-shelf solutions for caravan parks, but nothing quite hit the mark.
This week I've been creating a web-based solution for their booking requirements. A modular system comprising customer details management, bookings system, payment log, availability calendar and a variety of other features which are specifically tailored to meeting their particular needs.
The system can easily be developed to provide more features in the future - we're currently thinking about providing an online booking and payments system for their customers which would become part of the same system. Kieran and Lisa are also keen to make use of some of the data their program records to monitor the effectiveness of their website and advertising materials - reports which can be easily built into the system over time.
I'm sure there are plenty of great solutions out there for those happy to use a generic system, but in a similar way to building your own house, if you want something which ticks all the boxes, without charging you for the extras you don't need, it's got to be better to go bespoke.
I'll post some images shortly...
